Pinecone Wreath

This is a budget friendly DIY home decorating craft project that you can settle into on a quiet day. I found most of the materials at the Dollar Tree and spent less than $10 (after taxes). The rest of the materials, including the pinecones, were found around the house and yard.

The finished wreath can be used like a traditional wreath to hang on the door or as a tablescape centerpiece. I love that it’s customizable and there won’t be another wreath that is exactly like it. And it looks like it cost so much more!

Notes:

Pinecones – I used pinecones found out and about. Ask your neighbors and family to check their yard. Make it an activity to get the kids outside to collect pinecones. Find pinecones of varying shapes and sizes. The closed and smaller pinecones are great for filling in the gaps.

Pliers / Wire cutter – I did not include this is my project budget. I used a pair of crafting needle nose pliers that I’ve had for over a decade. Any tool that can cut wires would work. Check your toolbox for wire cutters. The 26-gauge floral wire from the Dollar tree are very thin. If you twisted it enough, it would probably break without any tools used.

Pine and Berry Christmas Wreath – there were a few different varieties of wreath. I chose the pine and berry one because I like the various floral elements that were included on the wreath. If I was to buy each of those individual floral elements, the cost would exceed the cost of this wreath that is also already arranged in an acceptable way. It could just use a bit of a glow up.

Materials Needed:

14.25” Metal Wreath Form

Pine and Berry Christmas Wreath

100 ft Floral Wire

Pinecones of varying shapes and sizes (I used about 20)

Pliers or wire cutter (or any tool that can cut wires – check the toolbox!)

  1. Wash and clean the pinecones. Let them dry completely before using them in this project. This is important if you are planning on using the wreath as a tablescape centerpiece.
  2. Cut several 8 to 10-inch pieces of wires. I used two pieces of wires to secure the larger pinecones in place. You’ll need more and will have to cut as many as needed.
  3. Use four wires to secure the pine and berry wreath to the wreath wire form. I chose the opposite sides about equal distance apart for the location of these wires.
  4. Next take a piece of wire and twist it around the pinecones. Make sure to twist it tight, leaving a few inches of wire hanging.
  5. Arrange a pinecone on the wreath wire form. Twist the part of the wire that is hanging around the wire form to secure the pinecones in place. You may need a second wire for larger pinecones.
  6. Repeat. Continue to arrange the pinecones. Use the smaller pinecones to fill in any gaps.
  7. Once all pinecones have been arranged and attached on the wreath wire form, lift up the wreath and give it a gentle shake. Secure any pinecones that appear loose at this point.
  8. That’s it. You’re done!
